Wilck goes quickest! |
The big news from Round 4 of qualifying here at the 2010 European Touring Car Championships is that someone other than Ronald Volker has won a round! But don't read too much into it, Ronald decided to try used tires this time and found his car struggled for traction. A few scruffy laps early on meant he then had to let much of the field go by, dropping him down the order |
This left Elliott Harper, Viktor Wilck, Marc Rheinard and Jilles Groskamp battling for the top spot, followed closely by Andy Moore. A roll by Elliott at 3:30 effectively took him out of the race, he later pulled his SpeedPassion powered car into the pits to save the tyres. Lots of position changing and a few mistakes alloed Viktor to take the win by around 1.5 seconds |
Andy Moore worked quietly away and was rewarded with a second place finish. The former British champion said his car was good but he still is searching for some more steering in the car. He is aiming for one more top-5 run which he thinks should give him a good enough starting position |
Marc Rheinard finally held it all together to record the third best time of the round, but afterwards said he was still not happy with his car or his driving. He still needs another good run to make the A final though. Fellow German and defending Junior Champion, Yannic Preumper finished fourth with another Speed Passion powered car |
Jilles Groskamp ended 5th in the round, saying that it is his driving that is letting him down, having not been to the track before the event for any practise. The Dutch driver was very disappointed, admitting he knows the car has the speed to challenge for the win |
A surprise in sixth place was another British driver, Olly Jefferies. The LRP/Associated driver said he is happy with how his car is going and doesn't expect to change anything for the next round. He is another driver finding it difficult to get used to the track, saying it is like driving a new track every run |
Alexander Hagberg finally recorded a top 10 time. The Swedish LRP/Xray driver, who qualified third at the World Championships a month ago, had been struggling with his car early on but took the seventh best time in Round 4. Ronald Volker ended eighth, LRP/Associated driver Juho Levanen ninth and Speed Passion / Tamiya driver Thomas Pumpler completed the top 10 |
With drivers now dropping their worst result, the top ten is as follows:
1 Ronald Volker Germany 0 points
2 Viktor Wilck Sweden 6
3 Elliott Harper Great Britain 8
4 Jilles Groskamp 9
5 Andy Moore 11
6 Yannic Preumper 15
7 Loic Jasmin 21
8 Marc Fischer 27
9 Olly Jefferies 29
10 Steven Weiss 29 |
With just 2 rounds to go, and no sign of the rain just yet, everything is to play for. Full results can be found at http://www.myrcm.ch/fr/fvrc/20100805_084586/3/index.html and of course stay with www.efra.ws for more action later.......
