Volker stays on top at end of day 1 |
The second round of qualifying, the last of today, has been completed and it is German star Ronald Volker who remains at the top of the time sheets, setting a slightly slower time than Round 1 but still good enough for quickest in the round and so a step nearer to taking the overall pole position for Sunday's finals |
Behind him, it was British youngster Elliott Harper who set the second quickest time, after a race long battle on the timing screen with Dutch team-mate Jilles Groskamp. Elliott said afterwards he was slightly disappointed since he drove a perfect race and was still nearly a second behind Volker |
Swede Viktor Wilck recorded fourth in the round, half a second behind Groskamp. Yannic Preumper (Germany) was fifth, two seconds further back. French drivers were sixth and seventh, with Loic Jasmin ahead of Cyril N'Daiye. Steven Weiss (Germany) was eighth, Marc Fischer (Germany) ninth and another French driver, Jerome Carpentier rounded out the top 10 |
Andy Moore made a few mistakes after setting a good Round 1 time and was fifteenth in the round, whilst Marc Rheinard saw his car leave the track and hence he was well down the field. |
So at the end of Friday, counting both rounds, the top ten looks like this:
1 Ronald Volker Germany 0 points
2 Jilles Groskamp Netherlands - 5
3 Elliott Harper Great Britain 5
4 Viktor Wilck Sweden 9
5 Yannic Preumper Germany 13
6 Loic Jasmin France 13
7 Cyril N'Daiye France 16
8 Andy Moore Great Britain 19
9 Steven Weiss Germany 20
10 Marc Fischer Germany 26 |
There's still four rounds to go tomorrow and with just 3 to count in total, drivers could still effectivly write off the first day of qualifying. But with many expecting rain tomorrow, they will be hoping for a few more chances to set good enough times to get them into an elusive A final place.
